Your two girls are beautiful! Yeah, the organic rice cereal was in the picture because it was Parker's first time trying rice cereal so I wanted to document everything in the one picture. I hope to make his food at home too, but we'll see!

In the picture above, your one year old has her two fingers in her mouth, does she suck them? I'm only asking because Parker went from his left thumb to his two fingers a few weeks ago too. Only difference is he puts them in "upside down" with his palm facing up. So silly!

I think the fact that you're concerned about making a difference, in and of itself, will.
I am an "older" mom- having kids that are way past baby age... and sometimes it's very frustrating thinking you're not making any impressions in the way you intend... but they do notice, and repeat what you do. The biggest lessons, of course, happen when you're not specifically teaching. - just like they say - monkey see, monkey do. :)

Profile Information

Relationship Status:
Married
About Me:
I'm a stay-at-home mama desperately trying to stay that way and somehow afford to get green. I'm guilty of not thinking twice about the consequences my not-so-environmentally-friendly actions would carry until I had my two girls. The responsibility that comes with being a parent is so much more than the here and now. It will carry forever so I try to live our life as though we're just borrowing this planet from our children and theirs. Which, essentially we are.
What does it mean to be a green and clean mom to you?
Being green and clean means using natural products for both the well-being of my babies and the precious state of our world. I think you can be "green" even if you don't know everything about it. I think as long as you start somewhere it IS making a difference and you should be encouraged to keep learning and doing. This being green thing, it's not something you do or something you are. It's a journey in changing a way of life.
How many children and what are their ages?
2 girls- 2.5 yrs and 1 yr old
What green issues do you hope to learn about through this forum?
I'm a beginner so anything that can help me learn healthier alternatives to everyday things like disposable diapering to grocery shopping and teach me ways to respect our planet. I hope to find support from moms that know what they're doing :).

A Green Family Reunion? Not so much.

OK, so before you all vote to kick me off the Green & Clean Mom island let me say this, it was NOT for lack of trying on my part.

From the second we arrived at our cabin on Friday afternoon I was thrilled to see not just one but TWO garbage cans in the kitchen. Two! Surely that was a clear sign that one was to be for recycling and the other for everything else. So I designated them and spent the entire weekend ensuring that everyone knew which was which. Effort #1 in saving the earth, check… Continue

A Green Family Reunion? Hopefully.

So we have a family reunion this weekend. Like, we're leaving in about 30 minutes, this weekend. And, inspired by The Green Meeme's post on greening up our BBQ's and picnics, I've been stirring over what we can do this weekend to be more eco-consious while not making it extremely difficult for ourselves.

Simplicity

Growing up, our family didn't have a lot of money. My mom was a single mom to three kids, we lived in a two bedroom apartment and bounced from babysitter to babysitter because my mom had to work. There was no excess in our lives. There was a tiny black and white TV in our living room and a tiny car that barely fit the four of us. I don't have memories of going out to eat much or ever using disposable dishes or utensils. If something broke it got fixed and if food wasn't finished it was sa… Continue
