Christy,
Welcome to Green and Clean Mom. We're so glad you've joined. Please be sure to check out the forum, add some new friends like Sommer (the founder of G&CM) and me! Start a discussion, ask questions and post pictures, videos or blog posts. Yes, here at G&CM you have your own blog! You have your own space to create, share and make yours.

We're looking for weekly contributors to post once per week and be featured on our main page. If you'd like to do this please let me know. This is something you can add to your resume or even link back to for writing and social networking experience. A great way to gain exposure.

If you have any questions about our community or would like to offer some suggestions, please let us know. Hopefully we can all help you with some inexpensive ways to make the change-over.

Have a healthy and green day,

Sommer, G&CM

I am just starting out on this "green" journey of mine and hope to learn some new things here.

What does it mean to be a green and clean mom to you?
Like I said, I am still learning here but for now I am trying to get most of the chemicals out of our house. We also started raising our own chickens and semi-organic garden this year. We use only organic fertilizers and pesticides. We gather as many wild berries as possible also and buy local veggies and fruit and some meat.
How many children and what are their ages?
We have two children. A son Little Buddy age 7 and a daughter Lulu Belle age 5.
What green issues do you hope to learn about through this forum?
I am hoping to learn more frugal ways to make this change. Maybe share some recipes and tips.

Egg switching episode

This has been a terribly crazy week for us! Our septic tank alarm went off on Friday night…of course reminding me that I still haven’t scheduled the pump for it. Too late…it is now full and needs to not only be pumped…but it also needs a new sewage pump. This is a whole other story…but you will see why both my brain and my husband’s brain are a bit scrambled this week after all this chaos.

We raise chickens…as you know…and have been selling eggs to family and friends to help cover the cost of f… Continue

Vertical Gardening?!?

I have never been able to get my tomatoes to grow "right". Two years ago, I didn't even plant any because I was so disgusted with them. They get bottom rot. What is bottom rot? you may be asking. It is when the bottoms start to rot before the tomato is even ripe...and they are not even laying on the ground like one would think. So this past year, I bought some organic fertilizers and pesticides and set about growing tomatoes...or so I thought.

You know what I got was a mess! A bunch of plants t… Continue

Rug catastrophes

I bought this rug for our living room a few years back because we have tile throughout our main level (due to daughter's allergy). I just wanted something that was nice, soft on my feet and that I could stand to be on barefoot (without loosing a toe to hypothermia!).

I looked at our local Menard's not really expecting to find anything that would fit into my limited budget at that time. I found two rugs that were perfect though. I liked the neutral colors and the botanical (lilies) theme on them… Continue

Container or raised bed gardening

Sorry about last week guys...I was getting ready for a quick mini-vacation and forgot to post! Anyway...back to business.

I am already planning my gardens for next spring! I know...we haven't even plowed under this seasons dead plants yet...but I need to be prepared. There are many issues that I want to discuss here with you, but the first one that I will tackle is container or raised bed gardens.

I chose this issue first because many people live in town and can't really plant a "garden". At l… Continue
