Green and Clean Mom

I am thinking of writting about this new fad, breast milk cheese. I know how I feel about it but would like to know what others think. Could you help me out and write a blurb on your thoughts about breast milk cheese? Would you eat it? Would you dontate your milk? Thanks, I can't wait to hear your responses.

I had no idea this was a new fad until seeing your question. I asked my husband about what he thought of breast milk cheese and he asked if I was reading the article about the couple who got in trouble for selling breast milk cheese in NYC restaurant. While it's not technically a health code violation, the city is strongly recommending it not be done. Anyways, you asked my thoughts. I think it's a little tricky. I think that there probably isn't anything healthier then breast milk you also don't know the health of the person making it. If there was a way to know for sure the person was healthy then I think it would be a great thing to do, I would in fact buy it myself. I think it's an incredible idea and is definitely worth looking into.

Thank you so much for your reply. I am actually surprised that I haven't gotten more responses on this subject. It seems like it would be pretty controversial. I am looking forward to getting more responses and writing about this subject.

yes, i'm surprised not to see more replies to this as well...
i'm definitely on the fence about breast milk cheese. it's actually something
my partner and i have joked about since our first daughter was born. having never been
a great pumper i don't think i could ever provide the amount of milk needed to do
something like that.
at any rate, it just sort of fills me with a slightly repulsed 'why?' sensation. are we so privileged
and bored that we have to sit around coming up with food novelties? maybe instead women with excess milk could consider donating it.
on the other hand i am immensely curious! so i can't say i wouldn't try it. and if i had tons of
excess milk, who knows?

Thank you for your reply. I heard about this and was very interested in the feed back I might get. I can't say I am a big fan of the idea but who am I to judge. I appreciate your response and I hope to hear more from you on the discussion forum. Have a great week.

I think I'd be okay with making cheese of my own milk for my immediate family's consumption (assuming I could manage to pump enough milk). With that said, I wouldn't feel comfortable eating breastmilk cheese from someone else simply because medications can pass into it, and then there is the whole issue of any diseases they may carry. Until people can be certified organic, I don't think I'm ready to jump on this bandwagon ;-)

I would have to agree with you there. I think I could eat my own breast milk cheese (if I had to) but not others. Thanks for your response. I am looking forward to writting about this.

I'm surprised there aren't a million responses to this too! Here's my post regarding the "cheese":

I'm surprised too. I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking about this topic.

I agree with some of the others in that, if it was my own breastmilk, it might not be so bad. No way could I do that with anothers breastmilk. Also, in situations, like mine, where there is a child that is allergic to dairy and cannot the cheeses that we have in the home, it is a healthy alternative. That, however, is just feeding it to my child that cannot have dairy ( not even to myself and husband, unless we absolutely had to) - not for a public restaurant.

I never thought of the dairy allergy aspect, thanks for bringing that up. I'm so glad that you replied to the post. Thank you.
