Green and Clean Mom

Green and Clean Mom

I'm super excited to announce that Kiwi Magazine would like to give away a subscription to their fine green publication but guess what....so would I. Wait, not one subscription but I'd like to give two away. That makes a total of THREE Kiwi Magazine subscriptions for one year being given away. I've just written about this over at Green and Clean Mom, how I love this publication because it applies to how I parent.

All you have to do to enter is leave a comment (please number the comments in order) telling me what your burning green parenting question might be. What do you want to know more about?

Giveaway Closed: Congrats to the three lucky winners of a Kiwi Magazine Subscription:

14. I would love to add this magazine to one of my resources.

I would love to know about how not to feel guilty when I slip of the green wagon.

4. Is there really such a thing as "green" carpet? I am looking for new carpet for our home and have been told that the way it's made can't truly be green (now this is coming from a company I definitely would not consider green). Do you have any references for stores I can take a look at? Also, we're looking at no VOC paint. Is it true that once you add color it becomes "low" rather than "no" VOC paint?

Thanks!

Caryn

Is it really as convenient to use reusuable wipes as it is to use disposables? I don't normally do laundry everyday, and use a lot of wipes for various reasons, so I would need a ton of the reusuable ones.

I love using reusable wipes, however, I only use them for diapering with my cloth diapers. I want to get more or make my own for other uses. Try a few, you might love it.

a great idea is to used color coded cloth wipes. then it is easier to keep track of which ones for diaper changes and which ones are for hands/faces. the diaper change wipes can be washed with the cloth diapers but hands/faces/non-toxic cleaning wipes can be washed with clothes or towels. luckily, there are a lot of inexpensive cloth wipes out there so it won't cost a fortune when you have to buy a bunch. also, i find that 1 cloth wipe can replace 2 or 3 disposable because they just seem to work better. hope this helps :)

2. This may seem like a 'duh' question but how does one parent green? what is a green parent?

3. As a parent, I want my home to be as safe as possible for my kids. I use mostly homemade green cleaning products (baking soda,etc.). But I have to admit, I don't know the major offenders in all areas of the home that I should be looking out for.

look into Freshaire paint. ;) It is sold at home depot- and as I understand it-- the colorant is also no voc- so this is an exception to the rule of which you speak.

5. Where is a good place to find an organic mattress larger than a crib (twin, full, queen or king)?

I LOVE Kiwi magazine and would love to have a free subscription! Whoever wins is going to be thrilled! Thanks for a great giveaway.

My big, green question is about sorting through all the dire warnings about product ingredient lists? Yes, I know there are websites that have information on them but what about putting all that information in one place with easy to understand descriptions of what the concerns are and what the research that's out there actually says.

Try this website recommended by my physician:

http://cosmeticsdatabase.com/

They rate products we use on our skin against databases of know toxins.

7. For me, my concern is the balance of green parenting- it's about more than just green soaps and foods and the chemical exposure. It's also about the energy usage and recycling, and so I guess for me- I need to know more about the standard things we hear about every day-- change a lightbulb, etc... but instead get to the next layers of GREEN. Kids are interested... and they are sponges... they learn so quickly and easily. I am trying to teach all that I know and present all sides so they have a complete understanding of WHY we do things the green way they do. :)
