I recently found out from "non-toxickids.com" that the Seventh Generation liquid dish detergent I've been using, and thinking was completely toxic-free, actually is not. See link about it from their site:
Thank you Mel, Sommer and Kristinia for responding. I'm going to look into all of these and will let you what I find out. This really is a difficult situation because so many products list "fragrance", which is where the bad stuff can be. So you just never know unless you do some research on your own. I have to say, that I'm very disappointed with Seventh Generation because they listed the ingrediants and never mentioned what I wrote about in my original post. Am I suppost to feel better because they have the least of it?!!!!!!!
Thanks again and looking forward to sharing info with you again!
Kirstin
Well, I did some research on all of the dish detergents that were tested by the Organic Consumers Association for 1,4-Dioxane. Here's a list of how they scored for parts per million. I'll be honest, parts per million in a bottle of dish detergent is hard to wrap your head around but I think it's easier when you just compare numbers from a list of many. Here it is:
I've never come across Life Tree Citrus Fresh Dish Soap, which tested the lowest. Have any of you?
The other idea I had was this:
Dr. Bronner’s Magic All-One Organic Fair Trade Shikakai Soap - non detected
Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps 18-in-1 Hemp Almond Pure Castile Soap - non detected
I've seen Dr. Bronner's soap before but have never used it. I've heard good things about it, though. Have any of you used it? Could it be used with dishes?
If your interested, the testing was done on other products such as shampoo, lotion, etc. and it is posted in an easy to read, user friendly chart. Here's the link:
Thanks for the link Becky :-) I just sent off an email to Dapple asking if their product contains 1,4-Dioxane. I will let you all know what their response is.
OK, I may seem like I'm over doing it but I wrote back to Dana Rubinstein and asked her to confirm that Dioxane is not present in her soap, even as a "by-product". She said:
"SLS and SLES are esters of Sulphuric acid - SLS is also known as "Sulfuric acid monododecyl ester sodium salt", however there are over 150 different names by which it is known. In fact, SLES is commonly contaminated with dioxane, a known carcinogen."
I'll be buying Dapple today. Thank you everyone who responded to this post! Our contributions helped to find an answer.
